Less than two hours after being selected at pick 12 by Greater Western Sydney at the AFLW draft at Marvel Stadium, Parker sat a three-hour agriculture exam for her HSC.
After fears she would be forced to miss the draft, Parker was granted an exemption to sit her exam in Melbourne at the same time as every other student in NSW.
“It’s very intense,” Parker told Fox Sports.
“I guess this is what you have to do and in my circumstance coming from New South Wales, HSC is bang on this time and it’s unavoidable but definitely manageable and looking forward to getting through it.
“I guess they distract each other (school and exams).
“Obviously I’m here thinking about the draft but I’m also thinking of my exam and last night trying to study, I’m very much thinking about the draft today.”
GWS coach Alan McConnell was delighted.
“We feel as if we’ve strengthened all areas; midfield, forward, defence and ruck,” he said.
“We’ve added some top-end talent to our midfield with Alyce Parker from the Riverina coming in.
“Alyce is young, but was under-18 All Australian captain this year and will bring a great deal of run and elite disposal to our midfield, we’re very excited to have her join the club.”
Parker will officially link with the club for pre-season training next month.
She joins Collingwood’s Illish Ross as the second player to be drafted from AFL North East Border Female Football Club Thurgoona.
Former Australian Opal Jessica Foley went to Adelaide with pick 30 after a breakout season with Sturt in the SANFLW competition.
Wangaratta export Elise Coventry went to Geelong at pick 55.
