In a shock move four rounds into the season, McLennan and his son, Adam, and Caleb Martin, have signaled their intentions to play at Billson Park.
“I thought it was right for both parties,” McLennan said.
“When your time is up sometimes you have to make these decisions in life.
“There are no hard feelings.
“It’s all very amicable.
“I think it’s a mature decision.”
McLennan has captained New City for the past three seasons and, pending his clearance, is set to debut for Albury after this weekend’s Twenty20 round.
He is an inaugural Albury player and former club champion.
“Steve’s experience is going to be invaluable,” coach Luke Styles said.
“He’s still a very good cricketer.
“It would be great to have Steve, Adam and Caleb.”
New City president Anthony Baker was reluctant to discuss the clearances.
“We have a full, united committee and are still working through some things,” Baker said.
