The fire danger period will start in the Wodonga, Wangaratta, Alpine, Indigo, Towong and Benalla council areas from Monday.
People will be unable to light fires in the open air without a permit, with penalties for those who breach the restrictions.
Similar restrictions came into force in Albury at the start of the month.
CFA District 23 operations manager Stewart Kreltszheim said the restrictions were being introduced a fortnight earlier than usual.
“The warmer and drier than average weather over recent months, teamed with recent rainfall causing growth in pasture and roadsides means residents need to be prepared for the imminent fire season,” he said.
Mr Kreltszheim urged owners to clean up their properties to reduce fuel loads in the event of fire.
Property owners can contact their local council for information about obtaining permits.
