The first of the “two cities, one community” themed signs was installed on the Hume Highway last week, just south of the Olympic Highway on-ramp on the southbound side.
“They’re going to be situated at all of our major entrances on the city limits,” Wodonga mayor Anna Speedie said.
“It’s about really welcoming people to the region of Albury-Wodonga.”
Albury mayor Kevin Mack said it was a small step, along with planning between the councils, to show people were entering the “one community” in a true sense.
“It’s about making people more aware we’re doing this together, I think it’s fantastic,” he said.
Joint signs on major roads on the Border have not been seen for about 20 years since Albury Wodonga Development Corporation signs showing joint population were dotted around entrances until the 1990s.
