Murray River Police District crime manager Winston Woodward said the girl was walking home from the shops about 11.30am when she was approached on Creek Street.
“A vehicle described as a white hatchback has pulled up alongside her and the driver has asked if she needed a lift,” he said.
“The way in which she was asked and that the driver insisted is of great concern.
“The male is described as 30 years old, of solid build with grey or ginger hair.”
He is described as being a caucasian male aged in his 50s, 170 to 180 centimetres tall, with brown hair.
Detective Inspector Woodward said the reports were concerning, but there appeared to be no link between them at this stage.
“I’d like to arm the public with this information so they can keep a look out … I don’t wish to cause panic,” he said.
Meanwhile a 30-year-old male and a 36-year-old female from a Prune Street unit will face court in November for possessing explosives after a tip-off from the public.
“At that premises they spoke to an occupant and as a result detectives have made further enquiries and stopped a female from leaving,” he said. “Inside a bag she was carrying a number of explosives were found – a detonator cord, a detonator and a booster pack for explosives.
“They are fine on their own, however put together with high-power explosives, you can imagine the impact.”
