R&B stars like Chris Brown, Rihanna and Usher have all upped their BPMs of late and this former America’s Got Talent contestant seems to be joining them. Or is she?
While the 18-year-old’s debut album is certainly definitely dancefloor friendly (see Happiness, Hush Hush) she does try her hand at a range of pop styles including R&B and funk.
It’s all pretty wholesome, although Habit is vaguely saucy, a-la a certain Barbadian babe.
Rihanna comes to mind again on How You Like Me More, whose chorus, to my ears, rips the melody from Umbrella.
New single Good Girl follows Happiness’ airy formula while the phat funk of High Road make it worth a listen or two.
