The Boomers product has coached Purdue University Northwest in the US for the past four years and led them to back-to-back appearances in the GLIAC Postseason Tournament.
His overall record stands at 37-26-10.
“I’m incredibly honored to be recognised for this award,” Hayes said.
“With the high calibre of coaches that we have in this conference, to even be mentioned in the conversation for this award is very humbling.
“Recognition and awards like this aren’t possible without the tremendously hard-working coaches that help this program every day, including Liam Lacy, Sergio Reyes, Ben Wilbor, Jake Truty and Stephen Hayes.”
PNW finished with its most wins since joining the GLIAC, with Hayes earning the program’s first coaching honour.
