This year we are anticipating competition from as far afield as Gippsland, however, most cattle sell fairly locally to be grown out and finished.
- Graham Costello
The sale, an annual event conducted by local agent Costello Rural, attracts cattle from breeders that have been clients for 50 years and have supported the sale since its inception.
Graham Costello said he always gets nervous before a sale given all the unknowns, however, said the overriding desire he and his son Justin had was to ensure their loyal clients get top dollar as a reward for their effort and hard work.
“This year we are anticipating competition from as far afield as Gippsland, however, most cattle sell fairly locally to be grown out and finished,” Mr Costello said.
“Buyers come back year after year looking for genuine locally bred cattle,” he added.
The Auchinleck family, Baringa, Towong, are forwarding a line of 120 steer weaners - well-grown and in great buckle. They are sired by Raff and Llandalo bulls.
Principals Mark and Honor Auchinleck said the weaners were top of their drop and were by a range of herd sires purchased from leading studs. Also, they welcomed the opportunity of being able to offer their cattle locally
Local identity Keith Wilson will yard 70 older steers around 15 months that are sired by Paringa bulls. With all the feed about, these are ideal to grow out to target the heavy cattle market.
Once again supporting the sale is the Nankervis family, with Sugarloaf blood Hereford steer weaners. The Nankervis family have bred top class Herefords for generations.
An annual draft of Angus and black baldie steer weaners are being yarded, account Tony Jarvis, Cudgewa. Another Cudgewa breeder Ashtead Park will also yard 20 Angus and black baldie steer weaners. A draft of 80 Murray Grey steers, account Clydesdale, 14 to 15 months old, by top rate Murray Grey bulls are sure to attract attention from growers and finishers.
The sale is being held in the Corryong saleyards Friday, December 7 at 1pm and Mr Costello urged those attending to support the local CWA who is providing light luncheon.
