Border volunteer Rebecca O’Brien said the campaign hoped to collect scores of handbags filled with personal care products this year.
Ms O’Brien said Yes Unlimited, The Care Van Foundation Unlimited, YES Unlimited Betty's Place Women's Refuge and Westside Community Centre would distribute the bags.
“It is rather simple, you grab a used or new handbag and fill it with essential items like deodorant, soap, shampoo, conditioner, sanitary items, toothpaste and toothbrush and then whatever luxury items you think a woman may need like pen and paper, a scarf, a pair of earrings,” she said.
People are asked to tie a yellow ribbon on bags for teenagers and a purple ribbon on nappy bags. No ribbon is needed on the women’s bags.
Chemist Warehouse is offering a kindness bag online, which can be shipped directly to the charity.
