Malhotra suffered a recurrence of the complaint early in his spell against St Patrick’s last weekend, although he was able to complete his spell of 10 overs.
The Indian import then batted with a runner, top-scoring with 58 before he was run out.
He originally suffered the injury playing in Canada over the Australian winter.
“The physio told me it’s not too bad this time, but has asked me to ice it eight times every day,” he said.
“I’ll have to really be careful because I won’t be able to run because of the quad strain.”
Malhotra is therefore unlikely to bowl at home against New City, but he will be able to bat, albeit without a runner given he didn’t suffer the problem during the match.
It will be extremely tempting though for the Bushies to rest Malhotra for the final one-day game prior to Christmas.
He’s hit 952 runs at 68 with the club.
