An ABC spokesman said the change was an “ordinary reshuffle of presenters”.
But a former ABC colleague of Mr Thomsen, who the Border Mail has chosen not to name, said the host was removed from the position without warning.
“There’s a toxic culture within the office,” they said.
The ABC spokesman denied there was a culture of bullying at the border station.
He said there was “nothing out of the ordinary” about Mr Thomsen’s move from the 6.30am to 10am Breakfast slot to the 10am to 11am Mornings show.
Mr Thomsen first joined ABC Goulburn Murray in 2005, hosting the Joseph Thomsen Morning Show from 8.30am to 11.30am, until he became the Breakfast presenter in 2016 when two shows merged into the current elongated Breakfast slot.
Mr Thomsen’s last Breakfast show was on November 30, but the ABC did not announce the line-up change on-air or on social media.
Earlier this month the ABC Goulburn Murray replaced the Joseph Thomsen on the Breakfast webpage.
ABC Goulburn Murray chief of staff Gaye Pattison said they had not formally announced the changes as several staff were on leave.
“We often allow our team to try new roles to build on their skills and we are fortunate to have a versatile and talented team that can fulfil many roles within our station,” she said.
ABC confirmed Bronwen O’Shea would present Breakfast from Monday to Wednesday with Sandra Moon hosting on Thursday and Fridays.
Breakfast with Joseph Thomsen was ranked third in its time slot during the July 2017 ratings survey, behind Triple M and Hit FM, with a 15.5 per cent audience share.
Mr Thomsen did not respond to requests for comment.
