Denise and Eilee Leahy expanded their Howlong venture, The Gallery – Fresh Food Catering, to the Main Street premises late last month.
Eilee said they were looking for a base for their growing catering company and wanted to open their first cafe.
She said Rutherglen was perfectly placed and within easy reach of quality, seasonal produce.
“We live it and breathe it,” she said.
“We’re all about serving food from local growers; we use the preserves and products from the gift shop in our dishes like pork terrine.”
Having returned to Howlong from Queensland five years ago, Eilee said her mum fostered her love of the industry.
“Cooking takes me back to my roots,” Eilee said.
“We want people to come and experience what we have to offer and leave with tantalised tastebuds.”
The Gallery offers a fresh seasonal menu, homemade cakes and desserts, coffee and megashakes.
