The boy cut his arm at the Peekaboo Childcare Centre in Corryong last Thursday.
The damage was serious enough for the two-year-old to be transported to hospital in Albury, where he received 10 stitches to the wound.
His grandfather, Alex Kristic, was concerned about the lack of information given to the family from the centre and education department, and critical of the way it had been investigated.
The injury involved a glass window but the exact circumstances remain unclear.
Mr Kristic said he had made extensive inquiries.
A staff member at the childcare centre said they could not comment.
A Department of Education and Training spokeswoman said the safety of children at such centres was “of utmost importance”.
“The Department has commenced an investigation after being notified of an incident involving a child at Peekaboo Childcare Centre on Thursday, 13 December,” the spokeswoman said.
“As the matter is being investigated, we cannot provide further comments.”
