The pre-Christmas boost was delivered along with funding for a suite of other projects in the Federation Council area from the cashed-up government ahead of the March 2019 state election.
But the pool, which is closed this summer, was the big winner with the latest contribution adding to almost $4.5 million already set aside.
The biggest allocation previously was $1.93 million sitting in council’s cash reserves as part of a successful application for a rate variation by the former Corowa Shire before the merger with Urana Shire two years ago.
It was helped along by another $1.5 million after the two shires agreed to amalgamate.
Earlier this year council decided to build another 50-metre outdoor pool, learn to swim pool and splash park despite strong support for an indoor complex.
But it was agreed a heated option would be considered in the design process of the new pool.
Design tenders will be advertised in the new year and submissions will then be presented to a steering committee appointed to assist in the delivery of the project and council before tenders for construction are called.
“This new funding is a game changer as it essentially means council will have a fully funded pool complex, without having a loan burden, based on the original concept estimates,” mayor Pat Bourke said.
“Council looks forward to seeing just what we will be able to achieve for our communities, given it will be a regional asset to be proud of, and we thank all residents for their patience whilst this long awaited community project is being delivered."
Howlong hall and gym ($1 million), Urana Aquatic Centre ($434,469), Wemyss Road, Mulwala upgrade ($300,000) and Corowa Civic Bowls Club air-conditioning ($100,000) also scored funding.
"To say we are excited by today's funding announcement is an understatement," Cr Bourke said.
"With the addition of this generous new funding, council will now be able to supplement several existing major projects budgets such as the Corowa pool redevelopment, greatly easing the financial burden on council of such a major asset rebuild, as well as kick-starting several projects that are at the early design phase, such as a much needed new multi-purpose pavilion at Lowe Square in Howlong.
“It's an exciting time to be a part of Federation and we again commend the NSW Government, specifically local member Greg Aplin who has been such a solid supporter of Federation Council during its formation."
Mr Aplin said: “Federation Council has been working hard since its creation in 2016 to ensure it is in the best possible position to deliver for its community.
"This funding injection is in recognition of this strong performance and reflects the strong commitment from the state government to see our local councils prosper."
