In an impressive start to a year of big-name gigs, Nick Cave will return to his former hometown of Wangaratta on Saturday night and take to the stage for an evening of talk and music in Conversations with Nick Cave.
In February, Australian music icons John Bulter Trio, Missy Higgins and Dan Sultan will bring their Coming Home tour to All Saints Estate for A Day on The Green.
American singer, songwriter and actress Suzi Quatro is set to prove she can still rock with the best of them when she headline’s the Red Hot Summer Tour in March at Gateway Lakes.
MAMA will also host big names with curator Michael Moran announcing the gallery will host the internationally-renowned work of John Mawurndjul in 2019.
Mr Moran said the Border’s entertainment and arts culture was thriving and growing, creating a great momentum in the region.
“It’s all going really well, obviously I’m proud of what MAMA does but there’s a whole host of things on offer,” he said. “HotHouse, GIGS and the Creators Artspace are all incredible and I know of a number of smaller and independently run organisations kicking off in 2019 – it’s a really exciting time.”
Mr Moran said combined arts, music, theatre and other creative pursuits formed a creative ecology on the Border, helping each other to thrive.
“I think it’s strong and developing into a very active creative space,” he said. “They’re all really important to each other.”
In 2019 HotHouse will continue to offer thought-provoking and unique shows including Animal Farm, a one-man adaption of George Orwell’s novel, and musical comedy Romeo is Not the Only Fruit which challenges rom-com and lesbian stereotypes.
Albury Entertainment Centre’s season will feature one of Australia’s best loved stories, The Sapphires, and the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra Quartet preforming From My Life.
