The 17-year-old centre back has joined Melbourne City’s under-20s for the 2019 NPL 2 campaign after a stellar season at Murray in the 20s and seniors.
Mills was taken by surprise when he received the call just before Christmas.
“It was out of the blue really because the coach said we won’t sign you until January,” he said.
“Murray have helped me for five years, I couldn’t have done it without them.
“Working with the senior boys and bigger bodies, I definitely felt like I improved through the season.

“I’ve been signed for the under-20s and hopefully I’ll get some senior minutes and if not start seniors at the end of the year.
“Everything is so much faster (training at City), you can’t take an extra touch otherwise you'll be closed down.”
His father and former coach, Darrel, admitted all the hard work starts now.
“It’s up to him to prove that they need him, because there’s plenty of kids out there wishing they had that opportunity,” he said.
“As all the kids in that system have done, he’s sacrificed a hell of a lot.”
Mills will relocate to Melbourne to complete his final year of school and live with Cobram export Gianluca Iannucci, who is currently in City’s National Youth League squad.
