The seven-year-old ($2.05F) held off Corowa trainer Geoff Duryea’s Tudor Rule ($15) by a ½ length with Mitch Beer’s Aragonese ($6) rounding out the Border trifecta in the Open Handicap (1600m).
Jockey Simon Miller guided Footmark to his fourth win from 15 starts.
Meanwhile, fellow Albury trainer Norm Loy grabbed a double.
Waiting For A Mate ($2.90) won by almost 2½ lengths from Hail the Hero ($2.60F) and Casino Star ($12) in the Class 3 Handicap (1400m), while Squaw Valley saluted in the Class 2 Handicap (900m) from Murrawee ($13) and Beautiful Bee ($8.50).
“(Jockey) Blaike (McDougall) was rapt with his run, he felt like he had it won 600(m) from home, he was just travelling very well,” Loy said.
Waiting For A Mate has now nabbed a top three finish in six of his 10 races, including that second successive win.
“He was enormous, Mathew Cahill came back and said, ‘you’ve got a very good horse, just keep doing what you are doing and go towards the (Country) Championships’,” Loy said.
McDougall rode three winners, starting with Hetaera ($2.50F) over 1600m, while he piloted Duryea’s News Girl ($1.85F) in the Benchmark 58 Handicap (1175m).
