Chasing the home team’s 7-180, Western was in sound shape at 3-101 but Rhodes ripped in, removing the dangerous Hayden Quinn (34).
That was just the start though as the off-spinner claimed 5-30 as the visitors were restricted to 9-141.
“He bowled really, but Noah Gaske and Dom McCrohan also bowled really well, just didn’t get the wickets, but the three of them were fantastic,” coach Mick Galvin said.
Earlier, Corowa’s Ethan Hanrahan played a crucial role in the home team’s total.
Hanrahan combined in an 86-run second-wicket stand with Griffith’s Hayden Forner.
“Hayden batted really well, with them bowling a lot of spin, he was really aggressive towards the spinners, which was good,” Galvin said.
“Ethan normally like to play that way as well, but he dug in and fought it out.”
Interestingly, the defending champions bowled just six overs of pace.
