After making 105 not out for St Patrick’s against Lavington in their second grade match, the popular 27-year-old admits he lost the plot after snaring a hat-trick in the final over at Lavington.
“I carried on a bit,” Nicholson laughed.
“When I took the hat-trick I took off to cover like Warnie (Shane Warne) and made everyone catch me.
“I reckon I took it a bit far.
“The boys have been giving me a bit of stick about it”
Nicholson finished with the figures of 4-5 off 2.4 overs.
Officials believe Nicholson could be the first CAW player to score a century and take a hat-trick on the same day.
The off-spinner’s first wicket came when association stalwart Steve Wright was caught at long on.
He then had Ash Lafferty caught at square leg from a leading edge by Ben Jones before bowling youngster Bailey Hodgson.
“It was pretty good getting a hat-trick,” he said.
“The young fella played inside it a bit and it didn’t spin.
“It just clipped leg stump.”
Nicholson has made eight centuries for St Patrick’s in under 17s and second grade with a highest score of 137 against Belvoir.
He admits Saturday’s knock was special.
“It’s the first one I’ve scored since ‘Braedo’ (Braedon Hensel) died four years ago,” he said.
“I wanted to get one for him.”
St Patrick’s second grade and will play East Albury in Sunday’s Twenty20 final at Les Cheesley Oval.
It will be one of three matches on the day with Lavington taking on North Albury in provincial and CAW District doing battle with CAW Hume.
