Having been a regular at emergency over the last 18 months trying to get a suitable outcome for a young man I have been helping, believe me, it’s far from adequate on so many levels.
I have had a very, very quick learning curve into the world of the "departments" so-called helping the underprivileged and to say I'm disgusted is an understatement.
The last time I had any conversation with one of our local members he was at a loss to know where any of the allocated money was, let’s hope his successor has a bit more of a handle on the public finance.
As for the other local member, I haven't heard her comment on the situation at all.
Let me share another frightful situation that I was privy to at Christmas.
Without going into detail, we found ourselves at the mercy of "Justice Health" in the correctional cells in Albury.
There is no medical person on site, so even though the medication that my friend has taken 18 months to get hold of was given by me to the officers, it was not allowed to be administered. All they had to do was pop the pill out!

So in the most vulnerable time where mental health goes into overdrive and anxiety takes away any form of rational behavior, or thought process, they deny any form of relief.
This person also has a disability so with a flick of a switch he was reduced into a crumpled mess and this will take months and months to repair.
When I complained, I was told to report to the ombudsman. I am still waiting for reply. I would welcome an input from either of our local members.
I wonder if it was heart medication? He would be dead now. These sections of our public health are in complete chaos, along with an irresponsible justice system who seem to get delight in granting bail to homeless, unstable poor people who have no help or support.
You can rest assured the likes of the horrendous murder, or should I say murders, that have taken place in Melbourne recently will only increase if we don't demand change now.
We as a nation are responsible to look after those in need and not let them slip between the cracks.

Just give it a crack
The Albury Donor Centre is a very pleasant place to visit. Why? At the moment it is nice and cool. As well, everyone who goes there wants to be there and as a consequence the staff are lovely as they only have to deal with people who want to be there.
It is a nice environment, they have awesome chocolate milk, it costs nothing to go and you can help save lives. Just give it a crack.
Ian Thomas, East Albury
