North East Support and Action for Youth (NESAY) will facilitate a social group for LGBTIQ+ youth using a $10,000 grant from the Victorian government.

There were 11 successful recipients sharing in $110,000 in round eight of the Healthy Equal Youth (HEY) small grants program.
NESAY chief executive Leah Waring said the grant would be used to facilitate a social group and relevant activities.
“We’re looking at providing a support group for young people and holding community events and opportunities to build awareness and inclusion for young people who identify as LGBTIQA+,” she said.

“Our goal is once school gets back, looking at bringing some young people together and seeing what they would like to do and how they’d like support to be delivered.”
There are similar groups in Wodonga and Beechworth, supported by Gateway Health and Indigo council, and while there has been a gathering in the past in Wangaratta this will regroup the movement.
Ms Waring said this was the first time NESAY had been a recipient of the HEY grant.
“We want the group to be driven by young people and we see our role as facilitators,” she said.
“If there are young people who are interested in being part of the group, we’d love to hear from them.”
The North East Pride Collective also received grant funding to run a rainbow ball on Saturday, February 16, at The Cube in Wodonga for LGBTQI+ young people and their friends aged 14 to 25.
The annual grants program, to promote acceptance of diversity, is administered and co-ordinated by Youth Affairs Council Victoria and has supported more than 65 organisations.
