Jacob Allan, 24, had been scheduled to face a trial over a murder charge, starting in the Wangaratta Supreme Court on Wednesday, but he has accepted his guilt of the lower charge.
He died in the Royal Melbourne Hospital six days later.
Allan’s lawyers had brought up that he was acting in self-defence, after he was injured by a friend of Mr Berry’s, but his version of events will be heard during the plea hearing on Wednesday.
