The Bureau of Meteorology’s Yarrawonga radar won’t be up and running until next week after an on-the-ground examination discovered a hardware fault.
The radar stopped working about yesterday at 1pm and was set to be operational again at 4pm today, but BoM’s Acting State Manager Peter Otto confirmed more time was needed to source the replacement part and fix the problem.
“We are seeking replacement a part and plan to revisit the site next week to replace the faulty part,” he said.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and would like to assure the public that we are doing everything in our power to bring the radar back online as soon as possible.”
Mr Otto said during the outage real-time weather observations could be viewed using high resolution Himawari Satellite and Meteye and forecasters also had access to real-time lightning data.
He said this allows them to continue to provide a reliable weather warning service.
The Bureau's regular forecasts and warnings will continue to be issued as per normal for the region.
PREVIOUSLY:
With the Bureau of Meterology’s Yarrawonga weather radar currently unavailable, residents have been left without their to-the-minute rain graphs and are forced to look out the window to check for rain.
BoM’s Yarrawonga Radar, which shows all rain in a 256 kilometre radius, has been down do to ‘technical or equipment problems’ since 1pm on Tuesday.
IN OTHER NEWS:
The service is expected to be restored by 4pm.
In 2017, the service went down for more than six days.
Rain is expected across the region on Wednesday, with isolated showers already occurring north of the border.
Albury-Wodonga is expected to reach a humid 37 degrees with up to 4 mm of rain possible.
