That is part of a conviction and 12-month community corrections order imposed on Michael Anthony Delaveris in Albury Local Court this week.
Delaveris, 47, pleaded guilty to a single domestic violence-related charge of common assault, though magistrate Rodney Brender said the act was at the lower end of the scale for such offending.
When asked whether he accepted the police version of what happened, Delaveris replied: “Well, that’s not true.”
Mr Brender told Delaveris he could dispute the facts at a hearing if he wanted to, but he declined and stuck with his guilty plea.
The court was told Delaveris and the victim had a child together, but had not been in a relationship “for years”.
The incident happened on January 22.
Delaveris gave the victim and their son a lift home, arriving about 3.30pm.
There had just been a violent storm in Albury, police said, with “trees and branches … down everywhere”.
The victim commented on this and an argument took place.
After Delaveris parked the car, he told her “stop squealing like a pig,” to which she replied: “Aren’t you a ball of fun.”
He got out the car, walked around to the victim, struck her and said “what did you say?”
She was taken aback, but Delaveris kept hurling abuse.
