Ms Triggs will be joined by Wiradjuri and Wailwan woman, lawyer and human rights advocate Teela Reid, human rights lawyer and advocate Lee Carnie and Father Peter MacLeod-Miller for the even, at the Wangaratta Performing Arts Centre on February 14.
The event, which has been organised by Rural Australians for Refugees, sets out to discuss the importance of human rights in Australian and in foreign policy.
Convenor Bern Fraser said it would be a unique opportunity to hear some prominent voices on the issue.
“It's a coup for Wangaratta, we don't normally have the opportunity to bring nationally recognised voices to town,” she said.
“We're delighted not only to have Gillian Triggs attending, but also leaders from the Human Rights Law Centre in Lee Carnie and Teela Reid.”
The community forum will be held on February 14, with free registration at the Human Rights Law Centre website.
