A leading Cricket Albury-Wodonga umpire has officiated at the SCG.
Ken Brooks controlled the Central Coast Rush-Coffs Coast Chargers Sixers Conference final.
“Absolutely (it was a buzz), you walk into the umpires room and there’s all the NSW umpires who’ve done first-class cricket on an honour board with an asterisk next to their names for all the Test umpires,” he said.
The 63-year-old only took up umpiring in 2006.
“The kids had grown up so I wanted to return something back to the game,” he said.
“I have an official background with my soccer refereeing, but cricket’s my first love and I thought I’d try it out.”
Border-based Cricket NSW official Robbie Mackinlay was part of the commentary team for the annual Regional Bash T20 format.
“Brooksy performed very well, his decision making was excellent and he handled the big occasion well,” he said.
Brooks has no plans to retire.
