Taming of the Shrew will be staged in-the-round at Albury Botanic Gardens, meaning theatre-goers will surround the actors on all sides.
The Other Theatre Company’s 2019 production of Shakespeare in the Gardens in Albury will run on February 22 and 23 and March 1 and 2.
Director Pieta Swann said she was passionate about pushing her actors out of their comfort zones.
“The audience will surround the actors on all sides and be sitting less than three metres from the stage, which has taken a bit of getting used to at rehearsals,” she said.
“This type of staging means that the focus in 100 per cent on the actors at all times; something our cast is completely ready for.”
IN OTHER NEWS:
Taming of the Shrew revolves around the marriage negotiations of the Minola sisters, two rich but different women. Katharina is famed throughout Padua for her scolding tongue.
When friends try to match Katharina and Petruchio, the latter vows to tame Katharina but instead finds his match.
“Being insecure about finding love and not losing yourself within a relationship are ideas that resonate with modern audiences,” Swann said.
The language has been updated and characters adapted to suit modern audiences.
Set in the 1950s, it's suitable for all ages.
