Former Wodonga councillor Mike Fraser quizzed councillors Libby Hall and Ron Mildren about plans for the new library and a site for a stopgap centre at a Wodonga Ratepayers' Association meeting this week.
"Part of the funding was to do the detailed design plans, so that's a process that has to be done and we're informed that the first stage of the project will be demolition and that's likely to start in about June or July this year," Cr Mildren said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Wodonga Family History Society secretary Wendy Cooksey told Cr Mildren her members, who use part of the library, were anxious to know the interim location.
Cr Mildren replied: "Every briefing meeting that we have is declared confidential by the CEO and anything that is discussed in a briefing meeting can't be divulged by any councillor outside of that meeting.
"Unfortunately we've only had conversations inside the meeting in relation to that, having said all that I don't think the final arrangements have been done as to where the temporary library will be, but there will be one."
A council spokeswoman said library plans were at a "detailed design stage".
"A location for a temporary library has not been secured," she said.
"Investigations continue into a site that meets the required criteria."
It has been speculated a former shop in High Street could become a library.
The redevelopment will result in a two-storey building that will contain two galleries, library, arts and literature retail area and workshop meeting areas.
It is expected 86 jobs will be created through construction which is due to take 18 months.
