Albury Local Court was told on Monday that nothing could be finalised until a report was provided by NSW Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network.

Steven Dodds fronted court via a video link to Junee jail, where he is also being held awaiting the preparation of a prosecution brief into unrelated allegations of a rape at Culcairn on December 3.

But the domestic violence matters, to which he has pleaded guilty, took place in the south-western Sydney suburb of Mount Annan on August 25.

Magistrate Imad Abdul-Karim further remanded Dodds, 35, in custody until his sentencing on March 27 on charges of common assault, armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, stalk and intimidate and destroy or damage property.

Dodds and the woman, now 36, had been in a relationship for about 12 years.

She was 38 weeks’ pregnant at the time of the assault and had been Dodds living with her for about four months.

About 3pm, Dodds, the woman and their child drove to visit friends in another suburb, staying for a few hours until he demanded they return home.

As they drove back, Dodds abused and screamed at the woman and ordered that she never speak to her friends again.

He kept abusing her when they got home before going inside, but she was told to stay in the car.

Their child, aged five, was used by Dodds to relay messages to her including: “You are going to get what you deserve.”

When she was eventually let back inside, he approached her with a 50-centimetre metal fire stoker and threatened: “I’m going to kill you with it.”

At one point he pushed her back in to a chair, distressing her unborn child.

Police said Dodds also turned to the child and said: “I’m going to die. Mummy has done this. Remember this.”

The victim called the police, prompting Dodds to use the stoker to smash holes in the floor and wall.
