Indigo Council advised on its Facebook page on Tuesday morning that North East Water had located a leak in Martin's Lane while testing water pipes.
"They have excavated and repaired the leak. The excavation site will remain open for a short period to monitor the pipe and ensure the repair has been successful," the post read.
"We hope this will resolve the water issues in the centre of town."
North East Water operations executive John Day confirmed the works had taken place.
"During the past week, North East Water has worked with the owner of the local supermarket in Chiltern to investigate a water leak issue," he said in a statement.
"Our operations crew discovered the source of the leak in a private water line, and at the request of the owner of the pipe, the leak has now been repaired.
"We hope this helps to resolve the water seepage issue."
