Wodonga Council has released an image and plans for the library and gallery work.
The two-storey building will include a fresh library area, two galleries and a community meeting and workshop rooms.
In the media release put on Tuesday morning the council trumpeted that "a significant design feature is the spiral staircase topped by a skylight which will intersect the second-floor gallery spaces".
Wodonga Mayor Cr Anna Speedie said the project builds on the momentum of the city centre’s transformation.
“This precinct, which is the anchor of the southern end of the central business district, has more than 300,000 visitors each year,” Cr Speedie said.
“This important redevelopment will not only meet the needs of our growing community but also provide the opportunity to promote an accessible and fit-for-purpose facility that provides a program of arts and culture to our residents and our visitors.
“We know that arts and culture contribute to our economy as well as creating opportunities for our community to gather, interact and connect.
“This redevelopment will see the improvement of the quality of services and community infrastructure.”
Construction is due to begin in the second-half of the year.
