The process of dealing with police and going to court can be foreign to many law-abiding residents, so when family members get caught up in drugs, they do not always know how to help.

Wangaratta’s Local Drug Action Team will launch a new brochure this week, as part of the Beyond Ice campaign.
Methamphetamine is a known problem in regional communities through the North East and police and community groups have been working together to find the right balance between prosecuting the criminal aspect and getting treatment for addicts.
The Beyond Ice brochure contains advice about family support and treatment, and a legal brochure outlining what happens at court and what is involved in a community correction order or when someone is sent to prison.
LDAT member Tammy Atkins said the information would be helpful to families.
“These have been prepared in response to feedback from the local community and include Wangaratta drug and alcohol support information,” she said.
The brochure will be launched at Wangaratta Farmers’ Market on Saturday at the new Beyond Ice community services stall, where police, Department of Justice and Community Safety, and Victims of Crime Victoria will also be to offer advice on the availability of drug, alcohol, and rehabilitation services in the city.
“Wangaratta LDAT recognises that problematic drug and alcohol use are complex issues that cannot be resolved in isolation," Ms Atkins said.
“Their Beyond Ice campaign is creating a local, whole-of-community approach to address this challenge locally.”
Wangaratta Farmers Market will be at the Anglican Cathedral on Saturday from 8am to 12pm.
