Repair Cafe Albury-Wodonga will host two demonstrations on Saturday to help people extend the life of their computer and save them money.
Repair Cafe coordinator Lizette Salmon said a computer virus could range from mildly annoying to damaging software or files.
"Most of us have experienced heart-sinking symptoms like crashes and error messages, slowed performance, unexpected pop-ups and unintended sending of emails," she said.
"Some people get so frustrated they throw away their computers and start again with new ones.
"Our free demos are a way to educate and upskill, save people money and increase the life-span of computers."

Aaron Moffatt, from MoffIT in Albury, who has done about 100 virus removals, said it was not difficult for people to learn the tricks of the trade.
"Anyone with minimal to moderate experience with computers will be able to follow the steps and apply them down the track," he said.
Mr Moffatt said some people unwittingly put two brands of virus protection on their computers.
"They get over-keen, but computers can only operate one," he said.
Bookings for the demonstrations at 10.30am and 11.30am are via eventbrite.com.au.
The repair cafe will also feature an IT help desk for phone, tablet and laptop problems.
It opens 10am to 1pm on the first Saturday of the month to help people repair broken items including bikes, battery-operated appliances, furniture, clothing and blunt garden tools.
