Attendance at the dawn service was stronger than past years with Wodonga RSL president Kevyn Williams putting the estimate at 6000.
Among them was former commanding officer Mark Dixon, attending with mayor Anna Speedie in his first public event as Wodonga Council's new chief executive.
"Anzac Day makes me proud every year and I think Australia does it particularly well," he said.
