The Pigeons host a resurgent Myrtleford on Saturday and while it's only round four, the early indications are the pair, along with Wangaratta Rovers and Wodonga Raiders, will be fighting for a spot in the top five.
Whiley missed the losses to Wodonga Raiders (round two) and last weekend's 61-point hiding against Wangaratta with a corked thigh.
"He's a huge inclusion, I think he'll definitely make a big difference for us getting back on track," team-mate Brayden Coburn said.
"It's not just his presence on the field, it's everything about him, the whole team jumps up a bit when you have a star like him playing in your team."
The former AFL player will be desperate for a decent run with injury after he missed three months last year with a broken hand.
Myrtleford, meantime, is unbeaten.
