A double from Melinda Wilson proved the difference as Melrose turned the tables on Boomers, who triumphed 1-0 against them earlier in the season.
Wangaratta avenged last season's heartbreaking cup final loss to Albury City, beating them 4-3 in thrilling fashion at South Wangaratta Reserve.
Caity Rizzo, Bianca Mulqueen (penalty), Leanne Branson and Alice Townsend all found the back of the net for the Red Devils to keep them in second spot after six rounds.
The Albury United and St Pats clash was postponed until early May.
May 9 is the desired date for the reschedule, with a venue to be confirmed.
The senior women's ladder after round six is: Albury United 15*, Wangaratta 15, Albury City, 12, Melrose 6, Boomers 6, St Pats 6*.
