Star French import Gauthier Robin was at his brilliant best, scoring a double - the second a sublime backheel that Wanderers' keeper Rohan Pearce had no chance of stopping.
Robin narrowly missed out on a hat trick on two occasions inside the final 10 minutes.
Adam McLennan also finished with a brace, while Hudson Magerstein opened the scoring with a well-placed free kick in the fifth minute.
United coach Steve McLennan is rapt with how his side is performing across the board.
"There was 11 blokes out there today that really contributed," he said.
"We had a few out, but I never make excuses, we play with the side we've got on the park.
"It just shows where we're at right now.
"They're a quality side when they're up and about, so to not concede against a side like that is pleasing - they scored two against Wangaratta.
"Our defence has been sensational all year."
Robin continues to show his class and is a big reason why the Greens have picked up 16 of a possible 18 points so far.
"He's quality and these blokes get around him as well," McLennan added.
"The captain (Caleb Martin) led from the front.
"He's got the flu and has been a bit down and I've got a few boys with gastro, but we've showed where our depth is at the moment."
McLennan praised young defender Harris Lee who has fitted in seamlessly in the back line after crossing from Murray United's junior ranks.
Lee left the ground late in the game after copping a head knock, but should be all clear to line up in a blockbuster derby clash with arch rivals Albury City next Sunday.
Twin City coach Shaun Wilhelm admitted his side was a bit flat.
"There will be a few changes in the next couple of weeks, we're still trying to tinker with our best starting 11," Wilhelm said.
"I don't think they're five goals better than we are, we went 2-0 down and I changed something and we conceded a couple late.
"We'll finish in the eight, so I'm not really concerned about that.
"We were never going to be in contention to win a league, but we'll get ourselves ready and find the right combination come finals time."
In other games this weekend, Wangaratta scored a 6-1 win against Cobram, Myrtleford took down St Pats 11-1, Albury City defeated Wodonga Heart 9-2, Albury Hotspurs and Wodonga Diamonds played out a 2-2 draw, while Melrose forfeited to Boomers.
The senior men's ladder after round six is: Myrtleford 18, Wangaratta 16, Albury United 16, Albury City 15, Cobram 12, Boomers 9, Twin City Wanderers 7, Melrose 4, Wodonga Diamonds 4, St Pats 3, Albury Hotspurs 1, Wodonga Heart 0.
