The home team's unorthodox play led to a convincing 40-19 win.
"Our defence with the set pieces was OK, but we struggled when the ball got loose," centre James Devlin said.
"Leeton love broken play and they're all pretty good on their feet, so we struggled when the play broke down a bit."
The visitors posted the first try through forward Uraia Vuluma, but the Phantoms then rattled on three before half-time to gain the ascendancy.
The Steamers struck back with tries to Tom Wilmore and Sam Allen, but Leeton crossed again after more ad lib play.
Wilmore was excellent, firstly at fly-half, before moving to the centres.
His fellow centre Benn Reid also impressed, while forward Ryan O'Sullivan dominated at times.
The Steamers remain winless and will now face Griffith on Saturday.
