The Wodonga Cemetery Trust had to cancel the burial and close the cemetery from 8am Friday morning after it was flooded overnight.
Cemetery trust chairman Neville Seymour told The Border Mail the cemetery was "unsafe" and was closed until further notice.
"We just have to wait and see if the water subsides it could be 24-48 hours or it could be more," he said.
"We did have to cancel one burial on Friday due to the grave collapsing in the rain.
"We have rescheduled the burial but we just now have to hope there isn't any more weather and pray the water subsides."
The funeral directors Lester and Sons said the burial was rescheduled to Monday.
"We had had to notify the family first thing Friday," a spokesman said.
"We are unable to make any other comments."
