The Hoppers piled on seven goals in the opening term on their way to a dominant 23.13 (151) to 11.11 (77) victory.
Rutherglen could only manufacture one goal in the first-half as the home side dominated the clearances.

Ruckman Scott Spencer combined well with Jake Maddock and Luke Fraser who continually pumped the ball forward.
Coach Tyson Smith capitalised on their dominance to finish with five goals.
Smith said it was pleasing to finally put in a four-quarter performance after previously only playing in patches.
"We have been working hard on our game plan at training and we tried to implement that against Thurgoona last week but weren't able to," he said.
"But it certainly come together today against a side that boasts some real quality players."
