Under the direction of Geordie Brookman, Dale March takes on more than a dozen characters, from the revolutionary pigs to the tyrannical Mr Jones.
March said he felt most connected to Boxer, the hardworking cart horse.
"It's because there's something in him of me; I feel it highlights the challenge of culpability and speaking up for things," he said.
March said he had been well prepared for the show by his daughters, aged 3 and 5.
"Every day I am asked to be a different animal by my daughters; I trust this preparation has placed me in good stead for the ambitious adventure of Animal Farm!" he said.
"Orwell's work taps into one of the greatest functions of theatre; to stimulate the contemplation of dangerous ideas through the safety of art."
Written in the 1940s, Animal Farm was a response to the rise of authoritarian governments around the world.
March said it was still very relevant today.
"But I like to think Orwell's work was more cautionary than despairing," he said.
Animal Farm runs in Wodonga until Saturday.
