Albury Wodonga Regional FoodShare manager Peter Matthews said recent data showed up to 19 per cent of the community ran out of food regularly.
"One alarming statistic is up to 50 per cent of those people are children, so it's families with children who are predominantly those who have the greatest need and that is growing," he said.

Albury Wodonga Regional FoodShare will hold a movie night on May 31 to raise money for its operations, which provide an estimated 1.4 million meals to people in need each year.

Mr Matthews said FoodShare did not receive government funding and so relied on community support.
