The 49-year-old retired international cricketer and current commentator was boarding a Wagga-bound Qantas flight on Sunday when he began arguing with fellow passengers, according a witnesses who spoke to Macquarie Radio.
It is understood the trio were travelling together.
Qantas confirmed that disruptive behaviour led to a passenger being removed from QF2229 before it took off from Sydney airport.
"Prior to departure on a Sydney to Wagga Wagga flight on Sunday, a male passenger was asked to leave the aircraft for being disruptive," a spokesperson confirmed.
"He complied with the crew's request."
The flight was scheduled to take off from Sydney at 3.05pm and arrive in Wagga at 4.15pm.
According to Qantas' website, the flight departed almost 20 minutes later, around 3.23pm.
No subsequent Qantas flights out of Wagga were affected by the late arrival of QF2229.
"I did have an argument with two friends while boarding a flight to Wagga and I apologise for the inconvenience this caused other passengers," Slater said in a statement to Macquarie Radio.
Slater, a right-handed batsman who played 74 Tests after debuting against England in 1993, has been a mainstay of sports commentary since he retired from the game.
