Paul Dale, a former drug squad detective, is expected to be grilled on Wednesday.
But the case was later dropped after convicted murderer Carl Williams was killed in jail.
RELATED:
The commission has previously heard that barrister-turned-informer Nicola Gobbo was in a sexual relationship with Mr Dale and was called as a witness in his later disbanded murder trial.
Ms Gobbo is said to have admitted to former homicide detective Charlie Bezzina that she told underworld clients Mr Hodson was informing on them before he was murdered.
Former Victoria Police officers David Miechel is also expected to be questioned on Wednesday.
As part of its inquiry, the Royal Commission will examine the number of, and the extent, of case that may have been affected by the contact of Ms Gobbo, also known as 'Lawyer X'.
