Ley deserves apology
After her comfortable win in Farrer, Sussan Ley must now attempt to work cooperatively with Albury Mayor, Kevin Mack, to reap maximum benefit from the federal government's regional deal for Albury-Wodonga ('Business wants in on deal', The Border Mail, May 24).

I feel confident that any "lingering tensions" mentioned in the report will not be the fault of Ms Ley.
Mr Mack, on the other hand, seems to have continuing tensions in his dealings with many, including Albury sporting groups and our former member for Albury, Greg Aplin, who was needlessly attacked on a regular basis, Albury contractors, umpires and, of course, Ms Ley.
Sussan Ley was under constant attack from him during the campaign, and often not for her policies.
He stated on many occasions that Ms Ley had been "missing in action" for many years and failed the electorate. He was, of course, echoing one of his backers who could not contain his vitriol even after his candidate lost very decisively, declaring in The Border Mail on May 21 that his favourite saying is that "Farrer won because she (Ms Ley) now has to work for the electorate, for once in her life."
I'm glad voters thought differently. Nothing can ever justify these kinds of insults, a written disparagement of Ms Ley's proven, positive work ethic over 25 years. I believe it would be appropriate for those behind these comments to offer Ms Ley a written, public apology.
I also believe that Albury is not best served by Kevin Mack who always seems to be negative in his approach to representing Albury's interests. His woeful body-language is often very revealing.
Bill Shorten has fallen on his sword and I think Albury would be the winner if Mr Mack did the same.
He was trounced at every election booth in Albury which reflects very badly on his his local level of support.
Congratulations to Sussan Ley. As her campaign manager observed (The Border Mail, May 20), she rose to the challenges thrown at her by her opponents with strength and dignity. The best candidate won, absolutely.

All people deserve respect
I write in response to Olivia Noto's recent letter to the editor, (The Border Mail, May 11) published with the headline 'Not a Political Football'.
It seems that the letter writer, along with other members of the gay and 'inter-related' community will never be happy or satisfied with what they already have. This would appear to be evident as they seem to separate themselves more and more from mainstream society.
Aside from condemning the unwarranted (political) hate-speech targeting Sussan Ley MP, I'd like to take this opportunity to fairly inform the letter writer and others that 'International Day Against Heterophobia' is every day.
