The confidential briefing took place on Monday night following a regular council meeting and comes on the eve of a meeting called by Cr Murray King to ascertain the true impact on locally based sub-contractors who worked on the project before Depan went into liquidation in March.
Matthew Rogers from council's legal firm, Kell Moore, provided the legal advice behind closed doors.
The council will be provided with a report at its next meeting on June 11 regarding the total amount outstanding to sub-contractors.
The report will also include opportunities and risks of payment to sub-contractors both during and after the liquidation of Depan Group.
The meeting at the Star Hotel is due to start tonight at 7pm with mayor Kevin Mack also to attend.
Council is completing unfinished works on stage one of the project which includes the creation of another sportsfield, lighting and new cricket nets.
Some subcontractors who worked on the project prior to the Depan collapse have been engaged by council.
Meanwhile, Hansen Yuncken, which has been contracted by council to complete the next stages of the redevelopment, is due to start work shortly.
The building company was awarded a $10.1 million contract included the expansion of the existing grandstand ahead of Border firm Zauner Construction.
Construction of the amenities building on the new sportsfield is expected to be among the early works.
The council rejected the original amenities building design more than a year ago.
Completion date of the entire project is mid-2020.
