And one of the grants was in action on the night with the Albury Wodonga Volunteer Resource Bureau's cultural exchange program Kitchen in the Hood cooking dessert for the 100 guests.
Of the $174,500 one of the biggest recipients was the Albury Wodonga Regional Foodshare who received $17,000 to help with the purchase and running of a second food van.
Border Trust chair Michael Salter said the Big Give is the main event of the organisation's year.
"Announcing our successful recipients is, without a doubt, the highlight of our year," he said.
"We are 100 per cent local - our donors and recipients all live and work in our region and choose to give back to their community through Border Trust.
"And the money we present to recipients we can see going back into the local community and the kitchen out the front of the hotel is one example of a great initiative in action.
"The Big Give is the culmination of the hard work and contributions from many and is a wonderful example of what can collectively be achieved."
Areas of local need that benefited from this year's allocation include mental health and well being, disadvantage, youth leadership, prevention of violence against women initiatives and sustainability.
Friends of Nolan House received $6000 for shade sails for the outside activity area and a therapeutic garden.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Mr Salter said $110,000 raised from the 2019 City2City Run Walk was presented to Albury Wodonga Health but it was the smaller contributions which make the world of difference.
"The large grant to Albury Wodonga Health is impressive every year," he said.
"But it is the small ones give people the opportunity get ideas off the ground or improve something and comparatively they can do an enormous amount.
"The money really kick starts small ideas into something that really benefits the wider community and we have seen that time and time again."
Other grants include $2500 for Centre against Violence, $8000 for Parklands Albury Wodonga, $5000 for Junction Support and $3000 for PCYC.
