With the Cats in danger of losing touch with the top-five, the home team came out blazing with midfielders Jared Farwell and Damien Wilson leading the charge.
Rhys Renshaw was rock solid in defence despite a lack of football in recent seasons and Nathan Waite and Darcy Spinks provided targets in attack.
Wilson said there was an enormous amount at stake.
"The writing was on the wall a bit and we knew we needed to win because the competition has really evened out," Wilson said.
"We made sure we were ready to go from the start.
"We have had a couple of weeks on the road so it was good to be home again."
Mitta United's Rhys Preston worked hard but the support was limited.
The Cats are sitting in eighth spot, but only two points outside the top-five.
