A cleaner has been sacked after taking a selfie with a deceased person in the Bendigo Health morgue.

The Bendigo Advertiser understands the image was then sent to the woman's friends via the social media app, Snapchat.
Spotless, the cleaning company used by the hospital, confirmed a staff member's employment was terminated in relation to an image that was taken and circulated on Snapchat.
"Spotless can confirm that an employee's employment contract was terminated regarding this incident at the Bendigo Morgue in April," a Spotless spokesperson said.
"Spotless acted immediately following a report by another staff member who had received the image via Snapchat."
The Spotless spokesperson said the deceased patient was not identifiable because they were covered.
An investigation confirming the photo was deleted was completed by Spotless following the incident.
The Spotless spokesperson said the photo was not saved.
"The photo was taken on Snapchat, a social media app that does not save photos," the spokesperson said. "There is no image recorded.
"Matters relating to patient care are taken very seriously and this incident was a clear breach of the Code of Conduct and Social Media Usage policy."
The Bendigo Hospital Project website states that Spotless Facility Services is the facility management provider responsible for maintaining the hospital for 25 years following completion.
Spotless is responsible for catering, cleaning, facilities management and security at the Bendigo hospital.
