Under-11s and under-12s boys and girls matches are nine-on-nine fixtures to be played on half-size pitches at Alexandra Park, while under 13s through to under 16s are at Jelbart Park, with six full fields set up.
AWFA made finals in all but one age group at Shepparton last season, with 11 teams from the association to contest this year's event.
"We've got AWFA teams from under-11 boys through to under-16s, as well as under-11 girls, under-12 girls and under-14 and 16 girls," AWFA president Mark Leman said.
"There's teams coming from Mildura, Shepparton, Bendigo, Ballarat, Gippsland, Geelong, Warrnambool and Swan Hill.
"We had it about six years ago. It's normally on an eight-year rotation.
More sports news:
"Ballarat was supposed to host it this year, but they've got a basketball tournament on, so there's no accomodation in Ballarat.
"We've stepped in at the last minute to help them out."
Leman admitted a big positive this year is the introduction of under-11s to the championship.
"We've actually got two boys teams and a girls team," he said.
"We had over 60 boys trial for one team initially, but due to the high numbers of interest, we were able to get a second team in. It means more kids get an opportunity to experience that level."
Matches start at 9am on Saturday, with the last final at 12.30pm on Monday.
